Burgundy Frequently Asked Questions
We will send you detailed information about the Adventure in a Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
The average high temperature in Lyon, near our tour location, is 73
degrees in June when we normally travel to Burgundy. The average
low is 57 degrees. There is a chance of rain year round in
Burgundy but you should generally expect good weather with warm
temperatures.
What is the best way to get to the tour location and
where do we meet?
You
should probably plan to fly into and out of Paris for this tour. We
meet in the afternoon on Day 1 in Beane, center of the wine area in
Burgundy. Beaune is an easy 2.5-hour train ride from Paris with
one stop in Dijon. We finish the tour in Chambolle-Musigny and will
shuttle you the short distance to Dijon so you can return by train to
Paris.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in
the area?
Spending
a night in Paris before and after the tour is not only highly
recommended, but almost a must for North American travelers. We will
give you a hotel suggestion in Paris in the Pre-Departure Packet after
you book the tour. Renting a car in Dijon at the end of the tour is a
great idea and will allow you to visit other small towns in Burgundy.
You might also consider taking a train from Dijon to another area
of France such as Provence or the Loire Valley.
Do I need to be a wine expert to enjoy this tour?
You definitely don't need to be a wine expert to enjoy this tour. In
fact, you don't even need any knowledge of wines at all. All you need
is an open mind, an ability to discern what you like and don't like,
and an adventurous spirit.
How much hiking do we do?
Each day we have two or three different
route options. Our goal is to have short options everyone can complete
and long options that will tire out even avid athletes. This is not a
difficult tour but you will enjoy the tour more if you are physically
fit.
What ability level do I really need to be for this
tour?
This Adventure is rated For All Abilities.
For what type of people would you recommend this trip?
You'll
find Burgundy to be amazing. This is a great trip if you are interested
in French wine, in Pinot Noir, or simply in using your feet to
transport yourself from one small town to the next.
