Mosel Valley Frequently Asked Questions
We will send you detailed information about the Adventure in a
Pre-Departure Packet once you register.
What is the weather going to be like?
The average high temperature in our tour area in August is 74 degrees
Fahrenheit. So, expect warm days and nice evenings. It does rain in the
area year round and, on average, there are seven rainy days in the
month of August. So, be prepared for rain but know three of every four
days should be rainfree.
Which time of the year is best to go there?
Any time between June and September is a good time to be in the Mosel
area, as the temperatures and rain fall don't change much from month to
month in the summer.
What is the best way to get to there and where do we meet?
We meet in the morning in the city of Thionville, France. You will
likely need to arrive the night before and we have a hotel in
Thionville with rooms reserved for our group that you can book if you
wish. We finish in Koblenz, Germany. There are many airports in the
area, including Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt, and Luxembourg (only 20
minutes from Thionville). We'll send you more information in your
Pre-Departure Packet.
What should I do if I want to extend my vacation in the area?
Because there are so many major cities in the area, we suggest you try
for an "open jaw" ticket, flying into one airport and out of another.
You might consider, for example, arriving to Luxembourg a few days
early to visit this amazing city and then departing from Frankfurt. If
you want to spend more time or see smaller towns, you should probably
rent a car from Koblenz at tour's end. The Rhine with its famous
castles and towns is right in our tour area.
What ability level do I really need to be for this tour?
This Adventure is rated for Advanced
Beginner and better skaters. There are few hills on our
routes but you should still be able to brake. The skating is mostly
smooth but there are patches of rougher pavement and the occasional
in-town bricks.
For what type of people would you recommend this trip?
This trip will be perfect for almost all skaters. It is a great
opportunity to skate hundreds of miles in a scenic area. Bikers will love this trip also.
