The Netherlands is the perfect place for inline skating. The country is also an outstanding example of European life and a whole lot of fun. The provinces of North Holland and Friesland are virtually flat, crisscrossed with bicycle paths, and teeming with rural beauty. We skate from village to village, allowing plenty of time throughout the day to visit the many museums, snap photos of windmills and 15th Century churches, or sample the rich cheeses (such as the creamy Gouda) of the area. What more can you want?

How about two new twists for 2008, making this tour better than ever? First, we made a route change so we will skate right from Amsterdam itself on the way to the north of the country. And second, we have identified this as a Fitness Tour, making it perfect for those of you who love distance skating or simply want to skate with other competent skaters.

Our tour will begin in the outskirts of Amsterdam itself, removing the need for a first-day shuttle and giving us that much more time to skate. For those of you who have been with us before, this means the entire first day and half the second will be on new trails. Our remaining days will be on our standard tour route (we have run over 20 tours in The Netherlands) in North Holland and Friesland, a superb place for a skate tour.

We have labeled this a Fitness Skating Tour, which simply means we expect most people to skate the Medium and Long Routes each day. The reason we do this is simple - some proficient skaters love skating in a pack with other skaters. Bicyclists are very welcome on this tour. Note this tour often sells out months in advance.

Accommodations
We stay our first night in the Hotel Spaander, a lakefront hotel with 125 years of history in the cute small town of Volendam. Our next two nights we stay in the Hotel die Port van Cleve, situated right on a canal overlooking the harbor in Enkhuizen. We then move to the Hotel Hanenburg in the town of Sneek (pronounced "snake"), a fun town that deserves the two nights we spend there. Our final night is at the Hotel Heerenlogement in the seafaring town of Harlingen. Please be aware that while we choose the best hotels in each of the towns in which we stay, the hotels are typical European small-town hotels and not luxurious.
