Tibet is an enigma to most Westerners. While it sounds exotic to some, it is intimidating to others. We hear about its spiritual life and forbidden aura but that just makes it even more mysterious.
This lack of knowledge keeps most people from ever visiting what is one of the most fascinating and welcoming places on earth. You can be one of the few who does by joining us on our Tibet Trekking Adventure.
You can arrive any time on the first day in Beijing, the major gateway to Tibet. We'll have a welcome dinner for those of you arriving in time. The following day we fly to Lhasa, Tibet, where we spend three days, taking day hikes in the surrounding hills, visiting the sights, and acclimatizing to the altitude. Lhasa itself is amazing, with a central Tibetan core, monks chanting on street corners, and prayer flags flapping in the wind.
We then gradually increase in altitude by visiting the towns of Shigatse and Gyantse, two principal towns outside Lhasa, for more amazing sights and hikes. Then comes the highlight - the trek. We have selected an area no other trekkers go, giving you the chance to see what is essentially an original, unspoiled culture.
We hire yaks to carry our gear and our Tibetan staff takes care of the meals and just about everything but the hiking. This is "semi-luxury" camping, which means that although we sleep in a tent we have a dining tent with table and chairs, hot tea brought to our tents in the morning, and more. But the best part of the trip is always the people we meet along the way: yak herders, subsistence farmers, small schoolchildren with bright wondering eyes, and the people of our favorite village who always organize a special ceremony when we visit.

Accommodations
We begin and end our Adventure at the Novotel
Peace Hotel in Beijing, a five-star hotel in the heart of
town. Here we enjoy a luxurious Chinese & American buffet
breakfast as well as close access to Tiananmen Square. In Lhasa, we
stay in either the Dhood Gu or Dekang hotel, both traditional Tibetan
hotels but with modern amenities and located near the main Barkhor
area. We stay in two modest hotels in the towns of Shigatse and
Giyantse as we move towards our trek location.
